GoGlobal Schools Network - an opportunity for you to continue your schools' commitment to global education.

The GoGlobal Schools Network is a voluntary network of schools sharing the GoGlobal professional development experience/philosphy, committed to furthering international and global education, for the purpose of preparing students to be communicative and competitive in the 21st century. Schools participating in the GoGlobal Network will engage in the following professional development experiences:

1. Global School Assessment: Schools will administer the online Asia Society Global School Assessment in May/early June 2011 to the entire school faculty - funded by WVCPD. The assessment explores the commitment to global education in the following domains:
1. Vision, Mission and Culture
2. Student Learning Outcomes
3. Curriculum
4. Assessment
5. Instruction
6. School Organization and Governance
7. Professional Learning
8. Partnerships and Community Involvement

The assessment provides data that can be analyzed and used for developing a school improvement plan developed around the concept of international and global education.

2. August On-site (2 days) Professional Development Opportunity:
School teams will attend 2 days of professional development August 4 and 5, 2011 in Flatwoods, WV and will engage in the following activities:
1. Celebrate the success of the first 2-year cohort of Go Global and learn about the GoGlobal Schools Network
2. Interpret Global School Assessment data and participate in an improvement process that will enable each school to develop a customized plan of action for moving global education forward.
3. Engage in professional reading, discussion and protocols focused on the new resource Educating for Global Competence: Preparing Our Youth to Engage the World by Tony Jackson and Veronica Boix Mansilla.
4. Learn about competitive funding to support schools in implementing plans and student experiences developed through planning resulting from the analysis of the Global School Assessment data.
5. Identify opportunities to inspire other schools to engage in the GoGlobal Schools Network.

All expenses for professional development, including lodging and meals will be provided by WVCPD. Schools may have an opportunity to apply for mini-grants to fund international experiences for students at the school. Graduate credit can be offered in spring 2012 at a reduced rate for completing ongoing program support.

Please respond email Lorrie Smith at lorrie.a.smith@wv.gov to indicate your schools interest in participating. School teams do not have to consist only of the original GoGlobal team - others can be added and can attend the summer session. Once you have indicated your interest, I will provide further information about the Global School Assessment and about registering for the summer session. We look forward to our continued work with your school.

Winter/Spring Follow Up Agenda Changes –

The agenda for our upcoming Winter/Spring follow up session has been modified to maximize instructional time that was reduced as a result of recent inclement weather. For Friday, March 12, the agenda has eliminated training prior to 5:00 pm so that teachers can attend school on Friday. Friday evening’s optional activities will begin with dinner at 5:00 pm then a special immersion activity with Japanese Kirie Artist Shu Kubo. Mr. Kubo creates paper cutouts using handmade Japanese washi paper, which he has dyed a variety of colors. He approaches the paper sheet by sheet, creating a two dimensional work by precisely cutting fine lines with a knife. Kubo has recently expanded his techniques by combining washi with Western paper materials, resulting in quite remarkable three-dimension works. Mr. Kubo was appointed as Special Advisor for Cultural Exchange of Agency for Cultural Affairs – Government of Japan. This hands-on experience will be a delightful addition to your GoGlobal immersion experience.

Saturday’s agenda remains 8:00 am to 3:00 pm with breakfast and lunch provided.

Should this change any of your registration information, please contact Lorrie Smith at lsmith@wvcpd.org or through the wiki with any changes. ______________________________________________________________________________

March 12-13 Team Presentations

Please email Robert Crawford by February 26th with your team’s intended topic of presentation rcrawford@access.k12.wv.us (this will allow us to make sure all topics are covered).

Complete the planning document below and post it to your school’s wiki page before February 26th. The template is posted under each school’s wiki page.
